1) Tell me your career story

2) What is working well for you here

3) What is not working well for you

4) What type of work energizes you most

5) What type of work depletes your energy

6) How do you prefer to receive feedback

7) What forms of recognition do you prefer the most / the least

8) Tell me about your relationship with key team members

9) What is the most pressing issue I can assist you with

10) What’s a non-negotiable for you at work? (It helps both of them be on the same page and not cross a boundary)

11) What’s your working style/work process? (Helps understand how they work & avoid micromanaging with unclear details)

12) What is your idea of recognition? What makes you feel recognised ?

13) What’s a strong skill of yours that we’re currently sleeping on?

14) I also like understanding long term goals as it relates to their career. Understanding where they want to be in 10–15 years can help me better coach them and or guide them. Also, if I am not the best individual to help them with their long term goals it allows me to make introductions with individuals who can help guide them.
